ON DECEMBER 2, 2003 THE LONG COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS PROVIDED FOR EXEMPTIONS ON RESIDENTS BELOW POVERTY FOR THE PAYMENT OF CURBSIDE TRASH SERVICE. THE DISCUSSION ENSUED THAT EXEMPTIONS FOR CURBSIDE SOLID WASTE COLLECTIONS ARE TO BE HANDLED THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES (DFACS), Long County Office
THEREFORE, IF YOU ARE A BELOW POVERTY STATUS INDIVIDUAL (WHETHER YOU PAY PREOPRTY TAXES OR NOT) OR KNOW OF ANYONE WHO IS, PLEASE CONTACT THE LONG COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS (545-2143) AND REQUST INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO OBTAIN YOUR EXEMPTION.
IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS, PLEASE CONTACT ME AND I WILL SEND YOU A COPY OF THE VIDEO TAPE AND/OR THE COUNTY MINUTES FOR THE DECEMBER 2, 2003 COUNTY MEETING.

Article VII, Section I, Paragraph III (Power of Taxation) Uniformity; classification of property; assessment of agricultural land; utilities.(a) All taxes shall be levied and collected under general laws and for public purposes only. Except as otherwise provided in subparagraphs (b), (c), (d), and (e), all taxation shall be uniform upon the same class of subjects within the territorial limits of the authority levying the tax
Article III, Section VI, Paragraph IV (Exercise of Power) Limitations on special legislation. (a) Laws of a general nature shall have uniform operation throughout this state…This Month's State Law Fact O.C.G.A. §48-2-35(a) A taxpayer shall be refunded any and all taxes or fees which are determined to have been erroneously or illegally assessed and collected from such taxpayer under the laws of this state, whether paid voluntarily or involuntarily, and shall be refunded interest on the amount of the taxes or fees at the rate of 1 percent per month from the date of payment of the tax or fee to the commissioner. For the purposes of this Code section, any period of less than one month shall be considered to be one month. Refunds shall be drawn from the treasury on warrants of the Governor issued upon itemized requisitions showing in each instance the person to whom the refund is to be made, the amount of the refund, and the reason for the refund.When you have done all you can, STAND.
